An Honor for Azalea

I am very proud to announce that OCEAR (Oxford County Educators Association Retirees), a group of retired educators in Oxford County, Maine, has selected Azalea, Unschooled as part of its Maine Books for Maine Kids program. A member of the organization says:

We developed our book project 10 years ago when we realized that our county libraries were lacking children’s books by Maine authors. We call our project, “Maine Books for Maine Kids”. Members from the different communities throughout Oxford County deliver the books to the 25 libraries in the county. We are pleased to have selected Azalea, Unschooled to add to our county children’s collections. We have tried to vary our selections over the years to include all ages. We have selected board books, picture books, and chapter books. We have many homeschoolers in our county and this seems to be a good choice. Liza has written a story that will appeal to many of our “Maine Kids.

I was up at Islandport Press yesterday signing the books for OCEAR, and everyone there was as excited as I am about this–particularly when it emerged that the OCEAR members raise money for their program by selling homemade pies! Pie, books for kids, libraries–count us in! Thanks again to OCEAR for choosing Azalea, and to Islandport Press for their help with the logistics!
